Learning Center Staff

Cliveden Chew Haas, the Learning Center Director, is credentialed to teach academic high school subjects.  She holds certificates in teaching English as a Second Language to children and adults and has additional training in learning disabilities.  Originally studying science as a pre-med major for several years, she completed B.A. and M.A. degrees in English Literature.  Cliveden brings a wide experience in various areas of education and a contagious enthusiasm for learning.  She taught for nine years in the Elmwood County Jail (high school and college level independent study)and also at Milpitas Adult Education (advanced ESL, business writing, and SAT I preparation).  Her hobbies include training dogs, riding horses, and reading in many subjects. 

Mark Gaare is a credentialed elementary teacher with experience in language arts, math, social studies, science, and other topics. Students enjoy his active and supportive teaching style. He runs the SLC Elementary Room with creativity and lots of energy.

Our teaching aides are highly skilled and experienced instructors who are also successful students.  They enjoy sharing their talents and their knowledge.

Maiya Marshall, elementary T.A., holds a B.A. from Brandeis University in sociology. She has also completed a certificate course to teach English as a Second Language.

Siyuan Lu, middle school/high school T.A., is a junior at San Jose State University. He is majoring in software engineering with a minor in math.
